Gravis Cura founder and principal Edward Burdick is a Quality Management Systems expert supporting domestic and international clients in aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, and regulated industries. He brings more than twenty‑five years of engineering, quality, and operational leadership experience, with customers that include the U.S. military, NATO partners, and prime contractors.
Edward previously served as Principal Quality Engineer and Quality Management System Lead for the Rockets business at General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems. In this role, he implemented, maintained, and continually improved the AS9100D‑certified QMS, earning strong commendations from certification body auditors. He led the internal audit program, chaired the Corrective Action Board, managed strategic risks and opportunities, and coordinated all external certification audits, applying risk‑based thinking to strengthen cross‑functional processes throughout the business.
Edward's earlier engineering work included ground vehicle hardware and systems design, shipboard hardware and systems design, Gatling cannon testing, crew-served weapons design, DX-rated counter‑IED integration, unmanned aerial vehicle systems development, and reactive armor production. This breadth of hands‑on engineering experience across the full lifecycle of complex systems uniquely informs his approach to Quality Management Systems.
Edward augments client organizations by providing QMS development, internal auditing, corrective action facilitation, documentation development, and AS9100 / ISO 9001 certification audit preparation. He applies risk-based thinking to improve quality management systems in ways that enable and accelerate their maturation, in alignment with client objectives. His disciplined, mission‑focused approach aligns with the requirements of the standards and the organizations he serves.
A U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserves veteran and former SUBSAFE QA Petty Officer, Edward has deep experience in safety‑critical systems, submarine engineering, and military intelligence analysis. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also holds an ASQ AS9100 Lead Internal Auditor certificate (#Q24644).
Through his firm, Gravis Cura — Latin for “serious care” — Edward provides reliable, disciplined, and technically grounded quality expertise. Veteran owned. Submarine qualified. Pride runs deep.
